# EV route planner UK – energy, charging stops and trip time

## Quick answer

DriveQuery is a free EV route planner for supported Tesla models. Choose the Tesla model, year and version, then enter the start and destination. The planner estimates **road distance, driving time, energy use, battery at arrival, charging stops and charging minutes** in one calculation.

## What the planner calculates

| Output | How it is estimated |
| --- | --- |
| Road route and time | The ordered road route between your chosen places. |
| Energy use | Usable battery, reference consumption and the selected Tesla speed curve. |
| Arrival battery | Estimated energy remaining after each route leg. |
| Charging stops | Reachable fast chargers when the route cannot stay above the reserve target without charging. |
| Charging time | Energy required at the planned stop combined with the vehicle charging model. |

You can add up to eight intermediate stops and reorder the start, destination or stops before calculating. Energy and charging are recalculated for the full ordered route.

## How do I start an EV route plan?

No account is required. DriveQuery first asks for the car model, model year, version and starting battery level. On mobile, starting charge is set with a slider. If you allow browser location, your current position becomes the origin and the next question is simply where you want to go. Otherwise, enter both origin and destination.

1. Choose the car: model, year and version.
2. Set the starting battery percentage.
3. Optionally use your current location as the origin.
4. Enter the destination and calculate the route, charging stops and arrival battery.

## Charging stop intelligence

DriveQuery does more than find a reachable charger. After route, connector compatibility and arrival-battery checks, it can use researched stop data to compare technically valid charging stops.

- **StopScore and preferences:** Use Must Have and Prefer for researched amenities such as toilets, coffee, food, grocery, indoor seating or 24/7 access. StopScore v2.2 ranks suitability; missing evidence stays unknown.
- **Better Stop and arrival hours:** Better Stop only suggests an alternative after an actual reroute and battery validation. When opening-hours evidence is available, it can be checked for the estimated arrival time.
- **Verified prices and trip cost:** Verified current charging prices can be shown when supported by evidence. DriveQuery can estimate stop and trip charging cost without treating unknown prices as free or assuming a membership tariff.

## Current coverage

Charging-stop planning works when the start and destination are in DriveQuery's current supported markets: Finland, Sweden, Norway, the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain or the United States.

The first version supports the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X variants shown in the tool.

## Visible assumptions and limits

- V1 is a planning estimate rather than live navigation.
- Choose dry (20 °C), rain (10 °C) or snow (−5 °C, winter tyres). Terrain elevation is included when Copernicus data is available; the result shows whether it was used. Wind, live weather, traffic and slower cold-battery charging are not modelled.
- Charger information comes from open data and does not guarantee current status, price or availability.
- The charging plan targets a safety reserve rather than the absolute minimum possible battery percentage.
- Confirm the final route and charger in the vehicle navigation or with the charging operator before leaving.

## Common questions

### Is the UK EV route planner free?

Yes. You can calculate a supported route without an account or payment.

### Does it plan charging stops?

Yes. When charging is needed, DriveQuery selects reachable fast-charging candidates and estimates how much energy and charging time the route needs.

### Is it only for the UK?

No. This page targets UK users, but supported routes can cross the current DriveQuery markets when the route data and charging coverage are available.

### Is it live navigation?

No. Use the car's navigation for current traffic and live charger conditions.
