# Tesla battery replacement cost: check your warranty exposure first

There is no single nationwide Tesla battery replacement price. Published third-party research has reported full out-of-warranty Tesla pack replacements around **$15,000–$22,000** in many cases, while some Model 3 examples have been lower. Actual quotes vary by model, pack, diagnosis, location, and whether the repair uses a replacement, remanufactured or repaired pack.

Before assuming that bill is yours, check whether the Battery and Drive Unit warranty still appears active by **time and mileage**.

- selected current Model 3 / Model Y configurations: **8 years / 120,000 miles**;
- Model S / Model X / Cybertruck: **8 years / 150,000 miles**.

Tesla's current coverage also states **minimum 70% battery-capacity retention** over the applicable warranty period.

**Important:** Tesla says its online warranty page is for general knowledge. The warranty supplied with the individual vehicle is authoritative, especially for older model years and renamed trims.

## How much does a Tesla battery replacement cost?

Tesla does not publish one universal U.S. retail price for high-voltage battery replacement on its warranty page.

Published third-party research gives useful context:

## How to check Tesla battery health

On supported vehicles, Tesla provides **Controls → Service → Battery Health**. Tesla documentation says the evaluation uses Battery Management System data and compares expected retention for the battery type, age and usage.

Some supported vehicles can run a full **Battery Health Test**. Tesla documentation says the test can take up to 24 hours and requires the vehicle to remain connected to an AC charger. The result reports energy retention compared with when the battery was new.

### Do not use displayed range as a fake battery-health percentage

Tesla's warranty documentation says the vehicle's range estimate is an **imperfect measure of battery capacity**, because factors other than battery capacity affect range.

If you have a genuine Tesla Battery Health Test result, the checker can compare that percentage with the current 70% capacity-retention threshold for context. Tesla still decides actual warranty eligibility and how capacity is measured for a claim.

## What the checker means

**Likely active** means both selected time and mileage limits still appear open. It does not mean every battery issue is covered.

**Expired by time or miles** means at least one selected limit has been reached. That increases out-of-warranty repair exposure, but does not mean the battery is likely to fail.

**Near/below 70%** from a genuine Tesla Battery Health Test while warranty appears active is a reason to contact Tesla. DriveQuery cannot adjudicate a warranty claim.
